8 Reasons

Specializing in oils and watercolors, woodblocks and etchings through the use of printmaking, four renaissance artists in Charleston began painting what they wished to preserve. They recorded Charleston's vanishing ways of life by painting it's architectural and agricultural history, believing it was worth saving.

Because the goal was to pass it on unmarred, they started the rich institutions that were vanguard in their day, as they contributed to the rise of the Gibbes Museum of Art, the Preservation Society and the Charleston Museum.
